We recorded this short video during a color mixing demonstration at my recent Charlotte Workshop. I walked my students through mixing several colors, staring with a pile of my mixed black, which is equal parts Burnt Sienna (Winsor Newton) and Ultramarine Blue. This palette of colors was used to create several paintings during the Workshop, and once they come off my dry racks, they will be available in my Studio Shop. Stay tuned!
Two weeks ago, I had the pleasure of teaching a workshop here in my hometown of Charlotte, NC to a very talented group of students. We held the workshop in the education building at Myers Park Baptist Church, which was a fantastic space to paint in and a great group of people to work with. One of the highlights of the workshop was day two when several students brought in stunning Hydrangeas in a variety of colors from their own gardens to paint from! I truly enjoyed watching everyone get to know each other and become friends as well as turn to one another for advise during the process. I look forward to my next workshop here in Charlotte coming this fall!
Happy Summer, Friends! We're celebrating the season with a giveaway for a 12x16 original oil painting. "Hydrangea & Clementines" is on a 2" gallery wrapped canvas with painted sides (ready to hang), and is valued at $950.
During the very crazy month of May, I took my annual trip to Provincetown, MA, to study with Cynthia Packard in her studio. The trip was fantastic as always. Provincetown is an authentically beautiful place that many "Man-Made" vacation destinations attempt to copy in their charm and appeal, but typically fail and you understand that once you visit the Cape Cod area. Cape Cod has been protected from development and destruction like we have seen on our coasts.
I find being up in Provincetown captivating and as an artist, I was in visual awe the entire trip. I always arrive a few days early to take in the local vibe, see the sites and get into the artist groove. Cynthia was incredible; she is a very giving and demanding teaching who pushes me to reach further than I would on my own. I have a lot of work to do before I return next year, but I always appreciate the push Until next year!
It is hard to believe that I am announcing "Now Accepting Fall 2016 Commissions". I am currently finishing up Spring Commissions, which will be delivered by the beginning of summer; as well as working hard to have all my galleries set for the summer months. Commissions can take a while to plan so if you are interested in having a painting complete before the end of the year, now is the time to contact me. I will definitely need all materials by Mid-October to meet Holiday deadlines. I love working with families to collaborate and plan the perfect painting. Please feel free to contact me at email@example.com if you have any questions or would like a free consultation.
The Shop is stocked with a few Mother's Day Bouquets. Mom's have so many jobs and work so hard, they deserve special attention on this very Special Day. These bouquets will never fade. Charlotte clients are always welcome to come by my studio to pick up their purchases, just use code "queen city" when checking out.
If she is interested in a commission, a gift certificate could make her day. Feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or give me a call at 704-560-1338.
Last week I was in Beaufort, NC at Craving Art Studio teaching a workshop and also leaving a show behind. I had so much fun with Heather Sink, owner of the Studio/Gallery, and all of the new students and friends I met during my visit. The Studio is in a gorgeous restored victorian home. The high ceilings and breath taking natural light were perfect to showcase my work. Heather could not have been more gracious and welcoming, making me feel totally at home in minutes. All of the students were so amazing and became fast new friends. I look forward to returning in Spring 2017 to teach again. Be on the look out - if you are up for a gorgeous town, with really nice people and great food, then Beaufort, NC is for you.
It was one year ago on when Heather Sink from Craving Art Studio contacted me to discuss coming to Beaufort, NC for a workshop and show. Well the date has finally arrived and I will be packing up to head to Beaufort right after I return from Spring Break. Heather describes the group of students as enthusiastic and eager to learn. I am very excited to meet everyone on March 31st. I feel like I learn as much from my students at workshops as they learn from me. It is so awesome to get to meet a new group of friends with a common interest and to be immersed in the world of art for 3 solid days!! I also look forward to my Show Opening Reception on Saturday night at the Craving Art Studio 6-8 pm. Above is a sneak peak. I will have around 18 new paintings.
I am very excited to be featured in QC Exclusive Magazine's March/April 2016 issue, on stands March 10th. It all started on News Year's Eve when I checked my email and Sunny Hubler, one of the magazine's writers, emailed me to inquire about my interest in being featured in 2016. What a great way to start off the year!
Thanks to the amazing photography by Erin Hubbs and the well crafted story by Sunny, I could not be happier with the beautiful article. Read the entire article here or pick up a copy at area Restaurants, Furniture/Design Centers, Medical Offices and Clubs.
The Huntsville Museum of Art celebrated its 25th Annual Art Auction and Gala with several events March 1-5, 2016. Two of my paintings, Pink Hat and Pink Pop, were included in this prestigious event, which attracts dozens of artists from all over the country. Thank you to Sarah Gessler for inviting me to among this group of elite exhibiting artists.
It is hard to believe that I have been represented at the fabulous Huff Harrington for a decade. Ten years ago, on a wing and a prayer, I submitted work for review a few months after Ann and Meg opened their doors. I quickly got a phone call and they were over the moon with the way I painted. There was a big BUT and that was my palette. It was two bright and intense. I went back to work and created a grayed down series and we were off.
They have supported me through thick and thin and lots of growth. I have always been proud of the talent that HH represents and the integrity they have maintained in this crazy art world. They always protect their artists and are mindful of work that is authentic and original. Because of this I think I have pushed myself more to be a better artist over the years. I really appreciate all the hard work of everyone at Huff Harrington Fine Art and Huff Harrington Home. I could not have achieved this level of success without you guys. Thank you and I look forward to another ten years!
The Big Bash for the 10th Anniversary is February 27th 6-9 pm at Huff Harrington Fine Art. I sent several new paintings last week so be sure to go by and take a look. Let me know what you think. For more details visit huffharrington.com
